Rich and poor have this in common:
The LORD is the Maker of them all. Proverbs 22:2
Yes and no. People have certain talents given to them (“blessed”) by their Creator, such as a great business sense or a creative mind. These abilities can be used to receive blessing.
It doesn’t mean God loves the rich more than the poor. A rich person could be blessed with skills to make money but not have wisdom. A poor person could struggle with finances but live wisely.
Better the poor whose walk is blameless than the rich whose ways are perverse. Proverbs 28:6
However, there are worldly blessings and supernatural blessings. Worldly blessings come about by acumen, strategy and good timing. Supernatural blessings come out of nowhere. Worldly riches come about by hard work and sweat, under pressure and at great sacrifice. The other seems to come together with very little effort and miraculous results. God should receive the glory for both kinds, because it will help the blessed handle the wealth in a more Godly manner.
It can seem unfair that the rich get richer while the poor get poorer. It’s a condition of life. Some deserve their wealth and use it wisely (Bill Gates) and others misuse it for their own destruction (read the headlines). What’s important is how we handle our poverty or wealth and what we do during those times.
I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. Philippians 4:11-12
Being rich can be a curse, since wealth tempts and destroys many people and their character. Being poor can be a blessing if we use that time to focus our eyes on God and his provision for our lives.
