He said, “Look! I
see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth
looks like a son of the gods.” Daniel 3:25
There’s
much speculation about the identity of the fourth person in the fire with
Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego.
Some say
it was an angel whose job it was to protect the three men who stood up the king
and refused to worship his idol.
Others say
it was Jesus Christ, zeroing in on Nebuchadnezzar’s words about the fourth man
looking “like a son of the gods.” The
king knew nothing about Jesus so he could not have been directly talking about
Him, but maybe God inspired his words to help us see the possibilities.
Jesus
never referenced his appearance in the fire when He spoke in the Gospels so all
we have is speculation, but it’s pretty cool to think Jesus would have jumped
into the fire to save these men just as He has saved us from the fires of hell.
