Do not say, “Why were the old days better than these?”
For it is not wise to ask such questions. Ecclesiastes 7:10
Solomon in Ecclesiastes said that
wishing for the good ol’ days was not good.
Sitting around and talking about the ways things used to be is not
healthy.
Why?
Because that thinking believes that yesterday was better than
today. There has always been sin. People in the past weren’t more
righteous. They were always bad, falling
short of God’s glory.
There may have been less and
different temptations, but there were still temptations. People did foolish things and ignored wisdom.
They other thing is longing for the
past interrupts finding solutions for the present (and future). You reject your present situation and those
living in the present, almost denying you live in the present. There are people who need Jesus now. We should be thinking about what we can do to
reach them.
There were probably some things
better in the past, but there are opportunities in the present. Don’t miss them because you’re always looking
back.
