Whatever your hand finds to
do, do it with all your might, for in the realm of the dead, where you are
going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom. Ecclesiastes
9:10
This depends on where you go.
There’s no evidence in the Bible
that people work in hell. Work was a
gift given by God to Adam in the garden (tend to the garden, name the
animals). Also, work gives us hope and a
sense of accomplishment to complete something for some reason.
If God’s not in hell, then we can assume there’s nothing to do and
nothing to work towards. Solomon in
Ecclesiastes was probably focused on the those dying without God and going to
hell.
In heaven, we have our gifts and talents which we perform for God’s
glory. We have hope. We’re there for one another. We should want to be productive and have unlimited
time to complete our tasks. In addition, we'll be around some wise and interesting people so we're probably learning from them.
It’s reasonable to assume there is work, wholesome work,
fulfilling work that satisfies for eternity.
