Now,
brothers and sisters, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, for
you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the
night. While people are saying, “Peace and safety,”
destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and
they will not escape. 1 Thessalonians 5:1-3
While certain cultural and spiritual declines will prompt
Jesus’ return, for the most part He will come as unexpectedly as a thief
breaking into your house.
Take the story of Noah and Sodom and Gomorrah. The cities and the world had spiraled into an
“every man for himself” mentality, with everyone doing whatever they
wanted. That’s certainly a sign for our
times now, but it can get worse. Jesus
is patient about His return, not wanting anyone to perish.
We should be paying very close attention these days. Our guard must be up. We must get ready and preparing. While the signs are there, we’ll never know
for sure.
