For this is what the Lord says:
“To the eunuchs who keep my
Sabbaths,
who choose what pleases me
and hold fast to my covenant—
to them I will give within my temple and its walls
a memorial and a name
better than sons and daughters;
I will give them an everlasting name
that will endure forever.” Isaiah 56:4-5

A eunuch has two meanings that were sometimes separate
and sometimes the same thing. A eunuch
was a castrated man whose testicles were removed. This lowered their sexual drive and made it
impossible for them to reproduce. A
eunuch was also an officer or a high official for a king. Many kings castrated their officials so they
didn’t mess with the king’s women. At
those times the eunuch was both castrated and an officer.
