Woe to
you, Ariel, Ariel,
the
city where David settled!
Add year to year

Yet I will besiege Ariel;
she will mourn and lament,
she will be to me like an altar hearth. Isaiah 29:1

The
name appears only in Isaiah 29 and is a term for Jerusalem. It means “lion’s
strength” or “lion of God.” Jesus is
also called the “lion of Judah.” Mystics
have turned Ariel into an angel who special powers but that is not in the
Bible.
