Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed—in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.” 1 Corinthians 15:51-54
Paul in 1 Corinthians 15 gave a
quick preview of Jesus’ return. If you’re
on earth when Jesus returns, it will happen fast, before you know, a snap of
the fingers, a blink of an eye.
In that moment, Jesus is heralded
like a trumpet used to announce the coming of a king. You’ll have as much time to prepare as a
single note on a trumpet. When he does
return, the dead will rise from their graves (with their new bodies, fully
functioning for eternity).
Paul wanted his people to know that
they won’t have time to straighten things out between themselves and God. You have to ready now while you have
time. Don’t put it off any longer.
