Then Jesus said to him, “See that you don’t tell anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.” Matthew 8:4
He warned them not to tell
others about him. Matthew 12:16
Whenever the impure spirits saw him, they fell down before him and
cried out, “You are the Son of God.” But he gave them strict orders not to tell others about him. Mark 3:11-12
He gave strict orders not to
let anyone know about this, and told them to give her something to eat. Mark 5:43
Many
times Jesus told those he just healed to keep it quiet about the healing,
possibly, to keep swarms of others coming for healing. Healing was a ministry of Jesus’ but imagine
the crush of people and the desperation to get close to him as word spread.
Healing
wasn’t the only reason Jesus came to earth.
He came to die for our sins.
People would only see him as a spectacular physician and not as Savior. Jesus wanted to make sure they saw the full
picture of who he was, not just as a physical healer.
When
demons tell others who you are, well, it isn’t the best marketing
strategy. Demons are liars, but when
confronting God, they must tell the truth.
At this point, the people only knew
him as a healer and maybe a good speaker.
While his name was trending in Israel, it wasn’t for all the right
reasons. When Jesus rose from the death,
he released his apostles to go tell the worth.
Because of the lack of information, and some misinformation, Jesus
tapped the brakes on others talking about him until the right time.
