Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.” Mark 12:43-44
Two people
could give $100, but for the one this is 25% of their wages and for the other
it’s 1%. The sacrifice of the 25% showed
more trust and love to God. The other
probably tips a waitress more at a higher rate.
Sacrificial giving shows more trust. Even if the second person gave $100,000, it
still could be 1% of their wages. Now
the impact of the $100,000 certainly helps the church more, but the sacrifice
doesn’t bless the giver more. A poor
widow experienced more joy and love than a billionaire because she gave more of
herself.
