Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth. Mark 10:21

            Yes and no.  If you have a lot money or the pursuit of money motivates you, then yes, you may have to sell everything or give up a lot to follow Jesus. 

            This story focused in on a particularly rich man who needed to sell everything and follow Jesus because money had first place in his heart.  Following Jesus usually requires giving up something that keeps you from making Jesus number one in your life.  For the rich man, it was money.  For you, it may be something else.
