This is the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah the son of David, the son of Abraham: Matthew 1:1

            The purpose of the genealogy in Matthew and Luke was to trace the lineage of Jesus.  God promised David that someone from his line would always be on the throne.

“Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me; your throne will be established forever.’” 2 Samuel 7:16

            That came true when Jesus was born from David’s family line.  An eternal king who would forever rule.  The genealogies proved Jesus was the promised one.
