“But so that we may not cause offense, go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours.” Matthew 17:27
The tax collectors confronted Jesus
and his disciples about paying the temple tax.
Jesus told Peter to go fishing and they would catch a fish with a coin
inside to pay the tax for all of them.
Why did he do that?
Jesus didn’t want to create a stir
over such a small thing like paying a temple tax. He turned to God to provide. Notice, they didn’t dip into their own funds,
but turned to God for provision. Now, the
fishing required effort and faith, then God showed up to provide.
If we need assistance for any reason
and God determines he will provide, go fishing for the funds and you will find
it.
