While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them. Luke 2:6-7
This
manger was just about the most humble place to be born on earth. A field would be better, but to be placed in
a trough used to feed animals, seems dirty and unsanitary. It would be like resting a baby in a bucket
or trashcan. Humbling. But, that’s what God wanted. He didn’t want Jesus born in a golden
crib. He started off life on earth with
humble beginnings, for all men, because he came from everyone—the poorest to
the richest.
