And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years, but no one could heal her. She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped. Luke 8:43-44

            There are a number of possibilities as to why she bled.  One could be a hemorrhoid or hemophilia when a person’s blood won’t clot properly.  Most believe her condition dealt with either menstruation or a tumor in her uterus.

            The issue was embarrassing for the women and it made her ceremonially unclean for twelve years.  People could not touch blood according to Jewish law so people had to stay away from her, even her own husband, if married, meaning she couldn’t have children.  Jesus’ healing of her made her healthy but also restored her relationships in life.
