When he heard this, he became very sad, because he was very wealthy. Jesus looked at him and said, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God! Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” Luke 18:23-25
Jesus
was sad for the rich young man because his wealth had a hold on him. Jesus knew the way for this rich man to
achieve happiness and salvation was through getting rid of the worldly
temptations, but the man refused. While
being rich seems very inviting, it comes with its own set of problems. Yes, be sad for the rich who do not know God,
because it’s more difficult for them to find God than a poor person who has
nothing to fall back on.
